There are masters and cons
By S. Mansberger
Let me commence out by saying that I LOVE my Surfshelf because I HATE walking on my treadmill, but health requires that I do. I employed to listen to music, but I was just BORED. Now, I watch movies and shows with the help of my Surfshelf, and the 45 minutes just whizzes by like never before. I’ve had it for when it comes to two months now, and would hate to live without it. However, I only gave it 4 stars because I feel everyone must know in regards to the cons involved. Here they are, in my opinion:

Awesome Multitasking!
By Kat
I’ve read when it comes to a heap of fitness gurus stating that “exercise will have to be pure and zenlike, not marred by distractions.” Let me tell you, walking on a treadmill for a long amount of time of time is boring and far from zen-like. I know that I love to use my laptop because, like the inventor, our tech jobs have invaded our home space. The compensate is outstanding but you can’t sit at your desk (at home and work) for 12 hours a day and suppose to stay in shape. This device allows you to have both. I’m not in the best shape (which is why this is a Christmas present) and I may go up to level 2 while to the full or entire extent using the laptop, and up to normal running speed when watching videos.
I’ve been in gyms off and on for the past 15 years of my life. It gets REALLY boring and there aren’t sufficient mp3′s out there to provide variety. I’ve changed my workout, changed my song list, watched the gym televisions with headline news, read articles in magazines I would commonly not pick up, and expended the entire workout flipping pages on a book or keeping it open to in truth read the book. Magazines are boring and books ordinarily don’t work very well on the treadmill (and I’ve never mastered the little text/high motion aspect of running-reading).
When I am using the SurfShelf, I DO NOT FEEL LIKE I AM EXERCISING. I feel like I am having fun! I have a skinny little toddler and he does not have an exercise routine, he moves because it is fun to move and he stays naturally skinny. Why do we as adults have to make working out so painful and boring when we may get a low-impact workout surfing the web for an hour and have a great time with it? Think of all the teens who use instant messenger! OMG! Why not use instant messenger while walking? I’m sure we could get a few World of Warcraft guys out there to get into it!
And what in regards to when my boss tells me that I need to log on from home for an entire evening after sitting at my desk for 8 hours? This is a reality for a LOT of humans in my line of work where the line blurs amongst private time and office time. Many of us have home offices or fetch our laptops (money makers) to the couch to proceed working in the evening. Why not work on it while walking very slowly? I mean 1.0 is very slow on the treadmill, I’ve seen supermarket conveyor belts with more speed. At 1.0 you could get in a few miles over the course of assorted hours. I worked on a project where THREE of our engineers had heart attacks within a six month period. I have a very clear vision as to where this life style leads and if I do not get started taking care of my health, I will be that person being taken to the hospital in an ambulance.
This provides an substitute to folks who are on the internet for requirement or for entertainment.
You don’t have to give up your productivity or enjoyment to get a little motion in your life…you may have both!

Very nice to have!

I have a Precor EFX 5.19 elliptical. We had a lot of troubles installing the SurfShelf at introductory because the directions that come with the product are dissimilar than the ones on the product’s web site — follow the directions on the website (www.surfshelf.com) they’re the rectify ones. — this is the only reason for the 4/5 stars.
Once the product is installed — and I highly commend contacting the company if you are having difficulties since they are prompt and helpful — it does incisively what it says it will do.
I really, genuinely like the product for lite surfing and looking at DVDs. I’m liberated from having to watch the same shows as my 2.5 yo daughter for the duration of my workouts. Typing is a little klutzy (it may be done, but it’s awkward). But too much typing cuts into how hard I’m paying attention to my workout anyways, so I don’t mind.

@norxcontacts I was actually mugged and have been very afraid to go out when it’s dark. I live in a very quiet area but close enough to several large city centers and there is a lot of violence and crime committed so it’s not very tempting to go for a walk when you think of those things. Much health and happiness to you.

@norxcontacts Some people have been, you know. If you were one of them, this wouldn’t seem so silly to you, maybe. Or if you lived in a bad neighborhood, and liked to walk at night.

@xxLabrat407xx When’s the last time you got mugged, killed, or ***** on your outdoor walk?
Shelby
Walks are ok but treadmill desks is safer..there aren’t any muggers, killers, or rapists out to get you..and let’s not forget how weather doesn’t permit us to be out there… Also, great for those gamers or people who work 10 or more hours. Yayaya

I just made myself a treadmill desk by putting a piece of particle board between the shelves of two bookcases. (So the treadmill is under the desk). I don’t notice the treadmill noise. ( I just bought a new treadmill for about $600, on sale. Maybe a new one is quieter?)
Lauren
great idea and cost effective, but that thing about the noise from the treadmill motor…hmmmmm i can imagine….not sooo good…well, it’s true my but is sick of sitting so the street is calling me:)

Why don’t you just take a break and go for a walk?
Basil
