5Great addition to my system.
By David R. Darrow
Not a great deal of persons recognise that their Macbooks (and other Mac laptops) have a concealed optical (digital audio) output jack buried deep in their laptop’s headphone jack. I read with regards to it recently, so purchased this cable — from “eforcity” (vendor) who put it in the mail the same day — just to see if it was true. I have a Pioneer VSX-D509 home theater amplifier (bought it in 2003 or so) which had one open Optical input on the back (the little 1/4″ square port that has a “door” that pushes out of the way).

I connected to the amp, set the Optical 2 input on the amp to CD-R, then plugged in the 3.5mm optical end of this cable to my Macbook Pro. Now my little laptop output 5.1-channels (and more) when looking at movies, including downloadable ones, like on Netflix.

In fact, my wife and I missed a recent episode of “Lost” and tuned into [...], found it, and watched it to multi-channel surround.

iTunes has never sounded so good, too. There is perfectly NO HUM like you may most times get from “component jacks” and 3.5mm stereo plugs (red and white RCA jacks).

Such an improvement.

My Mac G5 tower has frequent TOSLINK in and out on the back, so I purchased those the next day to finish my system. I am rather pleased.

I employed the TosLink to Mini TosLink Cable Digital Optical Audio TosLink to Mini TosLink Cable, 12 FT along with an further and added 25-foot toslink cable RiteAV – Digital Optical Toslink Cable 25ft.and optical extension couplerOptical Extension Coupler to connect my iMac to my home theater. I purchased all the cables and connector for practically not one thing equated to retail on Amazon. It sounds fantastic–huge betterment over wireless (bluetooth) or RCA connections. Don’t waste cash on costly cables. The cheap ones carry the digital signal just as well.

These cables are necessitated for sure A/V receivers and televisions with Certain composite connections. Please exploration the new home theater systems connections before you do as I did and buy a receiver that does not have the proper connections already included.
